Recognizing Duplicate Items

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

When you suspect that two or more items in the Inventory Center are one and the same item, take these simple steps to be sure of your conclusions.

Because descriptions can be identical and even SKU numbers can be duplicated to a degree, it may be easy to jump to false conclusions.

There is one sure way to determine if the two items in question are separate items or already one and the same.

1) Open the Inventory Center and highlight one of the items in question.

2) Select "Stock Manager" under View on the left.

3) At the far right of the Current Stock tab is an Internal ID number.  Take note of this number.

4) Now look at the Internal ID number of the other item in question.

If these Internal ID numbers are different

You will need to decide which one to keep and which one to delete.

If these Internal ID numbers are identical

This is really just one item. These cannot be merged.

Something on screen is causing you to think they are different.

Look at SKU Manager under View on the left.

The purpose of SKU Manager is to allow you to lookup up an item using different SKU numbers.  Perhaps it is a vendor SKU number, a short-cut SKU number, a barcode, a catalog page number, or a supersede part number.
