Windows XP Support
POSitive Software Products and Windows XP* Support
Windows XP has truly been a workhorse operating system, and it continues to serve many of our customers who are running older POS systems. Unfortunately, Microsoft has discontinued support effective on April 8, 2014 and will no longer release security updates beginning on that date.
As a software publisher, one of our concerns is the integrity and security of the data created by your POS system. Continued use of Windows XP after the “end of life” date could pose a serious risk to the security of your data. It is also likely that credit card companies will prohibit the use of Windows XP on computers used for credit card processing.
We are also starting to see compatibility issues between Windows XP and new features and technologies we are adding to our software. For example, you may see error messages when starting the program, or new features may not appear or work correctly. Problems we determine to be caused by Windows XP will not be fixed.
So, what should you do? Evaluate your current point of sale system to see if it can be upgraded to a newer operating system. Can the computer hardware support Windows 7 or 8? Will your receipt printer, barcode scanner, etc., work with an upgraded or new computer? If need be, a reputable computer technician should be able to help with this step.
Next, are you still using POSitive for Windows? If so, then you really need to upgrade to POSitive Retail Manager. Ask your dealer or POSitive support for a quote.
