This section discusses the general principles of tax management in POSitive and specifics on making changes from the initial tax setup to meet local tax laws.  With POSitive, tax can be assessed on Sales and on Purchase Orders.

Destination Tax

If you must charge tax based on a customer's place of residence or where the product is shipped to, then you need to create separate tax rates for each county or locality you sell to. Some of this can be done in advance and the rest must be done when adding a customer to the Customer List.

Typically, customers must pay taxes based on the store location because they "carry out" the product at the time of purchase.  However, if the customer orders product shipped to a home or business, tax laws for that locality may need to be assessed.  (see Tax Based On Ship To)
